shacked up...

i had a very good reason for not posting yesterday...
and the day before that.
i was curled up reading a book;)

i know... that doesn't sound like a very good reason:
but, it was a book about a father, THE FATHER, THE SON, and
THE HOLY SPIRIT;)))

no, it was not the bible but a book entitled,
the shack.

i picked this book up for the first time on valentines day...
as i was looking for a book to get for my valentine.
my attention was quickly drawn to a book, the associate, which was sitting right right next to it on the shelf in the book store.

john loves john grisham.
john grisham wrote the associate.
john is my favorite associate (tee-hee, "corny" i know).
so, i bought him the associate!!!

anyway, since that day, the shack has been calling out to me.
no one said to me that it was good, that i should read it...
no, no it was nothing like that.
yet, i felt like i was supposed to read it.

on tuesday afternoon, i left home a little early en route to pick katherine up from school. since i had a few minutes to spare, i stopped by the bookstore to purchase this book.
it was the last one on the shelf;
and it was mine:D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
now, i am not going to go into much detail about the book today. however, i will say, that it is a good book. i read about 1/3 of the book on wednesday.
after doing so, i was neither so sure...
a.) i had actually heard it calling MY name
nor...
b.) that i had made a good choice in purchasing it.
for, i found it to be...
1.) very wordy.
2.) a little "campy" (if you will).
3.) slow.
4.) "out there".
5.) and not written well for any level of believer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

HOWEVER, a friend of mine called yesterday morning. while we were talking, i mentioned that i was reading the shack. she said she was too. i told her my thoughts about the book. since she was a little ahead of me in her reading, i asked her opinion. she said she thought it to be a pretty good book.

maybe i was being a little too critical???

so, when i got off the phone, i opened my copy back up to the page where i'd stopped reading on wednesday and commenced...

when i did??? it wasn't long before i felt as though GOD was talking directly to me!!?!?
through william young's words,
HE answered questions i had recently been asking HIM,
and HE even answered a prayer or two!!!

it was as if, GOD told william young to write this book to me and for me and, furthermore, to bring it "special delivery" to my doorstep with instructions for me to read EVERY word!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i don't know if this book would "speak" to every one in the same way.
but, with the knowledge that it could,
it would be remiss on my part not to tout it.
if the shack is calling YOUR name,
buy it, read it...
ALL!!!
then come back and tell me about your experience:)
if you've already read it, what were your thoughts???
love and God's blessings,
dani xx
I want to really know what questions were answered for you? That is what is most curious to me.
I have had several friends read the Shack. It hasn't called my name yet. But they sure liked it. I'll let you know though if I decide.
I guess it hasn't called to me yet, I hadn't even heard of it! I want to hear more about it.
God answers in mysterious ways. I love that.
I bought it at Costco having no idea what it was, other than the fact that it said something about being a huge bestseller. I got through maybe 25 pages and just could NOT get into it. I took it back to Costco. I didn't know at the time that it was religious but if I had I would never have bought it. I'm just not into religion as entertainment. A lot of people in my church read books by LDS authors, I won't touch them. I really don't know why, I guess I don't like anything that has to do with God fictionalized. I think it's great for people who are touched by those kinds of books though. And I firmly believe that they can feel the spirit if that is how it works for them. I guess I just learn differently and my Heavenly Father being the ultimate teacher knows how each of us learns best.
I've heard from a number of people that it was a good book - not as in "feel good," but as in thought-provoking and worth the read. I bought it for my father-in-law for Christmas but didn't have a chance to read it before I gave it to him, but it is on my list to read one of these days...
Hi Dani
Some things are meant to be. What a powerful experience for you and a thought provoking one for me. I am now very intrigued to check this book out and like you said, read ALL of it. How wonderful that it even helped answer some prayers.
I am a huge fan of books that change your life - be it in a small, or big way. I have a little blue book where I record all of the books I want to buy. I have even started wish lists for Savvy and Blakie (their lists are longer than mine !!).
That time of year again... perfect time for a garden party. I think when we did this last year, I was pregnant with Blakie. I have not chosen an outfit yet, but I will! A girls gotta love virtual shopping, especially when it doesn't cost you a cent.
I love your bright dress you chose - very trendy and the hot pink accessories are fabulous.
Hope you are having a relaxing weekend on the lane.
Lots of love and hugs
Elise
A lot of my church friends are reading this. I know in my heart it is not for me at this time mainly due to the horrible event--maybe when my kids are older. Right now I cannot even watch shows where these things happen.
I have heard it is amazing and life changing though!
Hey Dani! I actually read that book last fall--our Best Man (and heck of a great friend!) Tyler recommended it to me. We have very similar beliefs and ideas, and I really liked it! I like how it made everyone relatable. I think if people view the Holy Trinity that way, they're more likely to be a believer and feel an attachment. So glad you liked it! The weird part is that it takes place near my neck of the woods. I'm taking Mom and Dad to the San Juan Islands when the come out this summer! Love, C:)
