winter storm 2009...

(our yard)

our house is one of very few homes that still has power. this is amazing... as almost 300,000 HOMES in kentucky and the tri-state area are without power!!!

we received 3-4 inches of ice (monday night and tuesday) before receiving 5-7 inches of snow (over a three hour period this morning). trees fell, and large transformers exploded!!! it literally sounded and felt like a war zone here all through the night.
i'm still a little shell shocked:o

all the local shelters/make-shift-shelters are full as are ALL the hotel/motels!!!

further, temperatures are supposed to plummet this afternoon into the evening from mid 20's f to the low teens f. as i type, trees and branches are still popping, crackling, and crashing on the lane!!! kentucky has been declared by the governor, "a state of emergency".

stay tuned...

love and blessings,
dani xx

How scary. I'm happy to hear that you still have power, I sure hope it lasts. I actually never thought of Kentucky as one of the states where things like that happened. Is that how your winters usually go or is this just one big fat anomaly?
Stay warm and safe, and I will be thinking about you!

My mother (who lives in KY) called and told me about all the snow this morning. She said the snow plows blocked in her car and she couldn't leave the house. I surely hope that she didn't lose her power too.

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this bad weather.
I have taken for granted how prepared we are in MN for this kind of weather. As cold as it's been here we don't have the ice.
Do you have a working fireplace? Are you keeping warm?

I hope you are all safe & warm... Can I just say since I am not in that, that the pictures are beautiful... My kids have no idea what cold is. They were freezing this morning with their shorts & fleece jackets on. It was actually cold probably 50'. But it was beautiful all day.
Stay warm!
That just sounds so crazy!

Sounds kind of exciting, actually! As long as no one gets hurt...

How frightening Dani! Is this something highly unusual or do you get alot of snow/ice regularly?

Thank goodness you still have power...which means heat! God is watching over you on the Lane!

Take care and be safe!
