thread in time thursday...

it's almost that time of year...

football homecoming!!!

(katherine, jacob, and hannah: 2007)

***in the usa, all the high schools play football in the fall. football homecoming is a night that the high school's alumni is especially invited back to their alma mater to watch the game and take in a special halftime show where a queen and king are crowned (seniors chosen by their peers). there is then a big dance/party/pictures after the game for all the high school students.

love and blessings,
dani xx

I am not sure what Football Homecoming is ~ but they look so smart all 3 of them!!

We don't have any of these kind of things in the UK ~ I wish we did ~ it gives the kids an excuse to get dressed up and have a party.
Sending love and hugs XXXX

We haven't started school yet and you are getting ready for homecoming.
Katherine looks sweet in her pink dress.

Love that pink dress. So so cute.

Yeah for homecoming. Did they have spirit week yet? Let us know. I love how you inform your Aussie friends I am assuming, how it all works here. It really is quite cool. Now I am putting a face to Tabitha. She commented a couple of times. She must be a friend of yours Dani. I get it now. :)

Have fun with all those kids.

I remember those days. Buying an expensive dress to wear ONE time and fretting over my puffy hair. Good times.

Ahhh, the memories! Homecoming is HUGE down here. Like super HUGE.

I can't wait until mine are old enough for Homecoming.

Same thing as Tabitha said: we don't have things like that here in Belgium :( (nor do we have any shops that sell bridesmaids dresses or prom dresses...).

I would have loved to dress up! Has Kat been internet shopping for a dress yet?

Love,
Tania

i cannot believe you don't have dressy dress stores. maybe you should suggest formal dances for the schools and open you up a boutique:D how fun would that be!!!

Looks like fun.

I guess it shows how completely non-global I am. I have always assumed that all countries (well maybe except third world ones) have the same traditions we do. I guess that was pretty small minded of me. What a shame though, all kids should be able to enjoy spending a fortune on the perfect dress and shoes and jewelry, dinner, flowers and maybe even a limo. And then do it all over again in the spring for Prom.

Ahh, those were the days!

I love the traditions you guys have over there!
We have a formal for Maddy this year and next year she will take part in the debutante ball. Other than that there is nothing else!!
BTW What we play over here is "proper" football-no helmets and padding for our guys LOL!!!!!

Have fun Katherine-make sure we see some pics!!
Take care

Hi Dani,

The "dressy dress" stores are mostly the wedding dress stores.

We do have stores that sell nice dresses, but not many that I would classify under "gown". If you want something really nice than it's nothing of the rack, you have to have it tailor made. We don't have stores that sell floor lenght gowns year rond. Around New Year the stores have some special dresses.

I'm beginning to browse around (Kat's style: on the internet!) for a dress that would work for my 10 year anniversary. I'm also playing with the thought of making it myself. We'll see, there's still time.

Love,
Tania

suz,
it was small minded of me... (i know). and, it is craziness, but it is also fun:) we don't do anything really extravagant other than the dress here (on the lane) except for prom.

we have football and basketball homecoming dances then prom for seniors in the spring...
we don't have debutante balls, though, locally. i think they are beautiful and really hope maddy enjoys hers:D

tania, i don't know about delivery... but, i actually order most of katherine's dresses online from dillards. they seem to have the largest selection of all colors and designs. good luck finding your dress:D
