always a mom...

(cinnamon toast and sodas/the breakfast of champions;)

being a mom seems to be my calling in life... though i am only mom to katherine, i have always been blessed to have a house-full of kids!!! i really do feel blessed that katherine's friends feel welcomed, comfortable, and safe here on the lane!!!
yesterday afternoon, katherine called me while i was out running errands and asked if she could go to dinner and a movie with friends in evansville (about 15 miles from home). given that we were under a winter weather advisory, i told her she could go to dinner but not to a movie. as it was, there was already a little over an inch of snow on the ground when she returned.
kat: "mom, the roads are bad. hannah and barrett are just going to spend the night."
me: "ok..."
well, katherine, john, and jacob left for lexington this morning (they are going to the uk/vanderbilt basketball game and to spend the night with my parents in georgetown)... leaving me, hannah, and barrett snowed in on the lane.
(we received a total of 5 inches of the white stuff here on the lane, and i am jeepless, ha!)
so, instead of bach'ing it this weekend, i am still playing mom, which is just fine with me:) i got up earlier and made breakfast for hannah and barrett, found a movie for them to watch, and told them to make themselves at home...
i was going back to bed;P
what's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

love and God's blessings,
dani xx

I had to laugh because I could sooo see me in this same scenario...taking care of kids that aren't my own, yet are like my own!

Your home is a refuge and you are a blessing to many kids! I know they love you dearly!

Not only are the kids very lucky to be made at home but I am sure that the parents of these visitors are so very relaxed when they know that their children are so welcomed and looked after. You are indeed a very special Mum.

As Tania says, we are currently having some very welcome rain in our part of the world and it is quite hot inbetween the showers.

I always like to have the aircon on when I am at home and poor Jimmy feels he is living in your part of the world most of the time as he doesn't feel the heat as I do.

Awwwww, Dani, such a special lady you are. I can remember those days so well when Patti's friends would be staying with us for days on end it seemed sometimes. But, I always loved it. The good ol days! :)

Hey sweet Dani! Just wanted to drop by your wonderful blog for a visit! We're arrived here in Missouri around 5 Friday afternoon. And PRAISE GOD we didn't hit one bit of winter-weather driving in! Only tiny little dusting here, but my Mom & Dad say they have 3-4 inches. Guess Evansville & Henderson got even more!

Stay warm, safe, and happy there on the Lane! Look forward to visiting much more often now that we're semi-settled. Always love your posts & updates!!!

Much love, Take care, and God Bless you all there on the Lane!

I hope that when my girls are older that we have the same situation at our house.

You definitely have the cool house.

Dani you are the quintessential KOOL-AID mom. When they are all grown up and you don't see them as often, it would be a good time for you to take all of that motherly love and instinct and open up a Bed and Breakfast. You would be the perfect B&B hostess. Didn't you mention once that your mom had a B&B?

suz, if i opened a b&b, they'd probably all just move in with me, ha!!!

there is nothing like keeping your kids close to home:)

I couldn't agree more Dani ~ keep your kids close. I hope when my boys are teenagers, our home will be just like yours!
Stay warm Dani!
