tomorrow is "d" day!!!

i have a really hard time letting go of yesterday...

really!!!

but, tomorrow and friday john is taking a couple of vacation days to help de-junk our house...

our junk is (at least in theory) going to the dump:D

we have lived on the lane for nearly 18 years and have never been good at getting rid of things. we are all three "keepers". i understand (from hannah's blog) that katherine still has a baby wipe, which she cleaned her desk off in the seventh grade, it is named the "shazzam rag???", and she has kept it because it holds some sentimental value.

yep, she's my kid...

i'd hate for anyone to ever inventory my articles of sentimental value...

i know i have pretty much everything school-wise since nursery school...

from turkeys made from my hand-print to my college thesis on smoking cessation in the workplace, i've got it:b

so, the question i have tonight is what will i be able to turn loose of tomorrow???

i really want to simplify my life, but will the desire to hang on to yesterday prove to be stronger???

to be continued...

love and blessings,
dani xx

I am the same Dani ~ I hate getting rid of anything ~ but I had to when we moved here ~ due to the fact it is smaller than our old place!!
I have boxed up alot of things and stored them in the garage.
I hope that you can make life simpler ~ but not have to part with too many memories.
love to you ~ Tab XXXX

tabitha, i think a big part of the problem is that we never have moved, and we have a lot of storage space. but, i really think i've gotten to the point that i am ready to chuck a bunch of it (at least that's the way i feel today, HA!!!)

Eek, that is hard. I have lots of things as well I should get rid of but just haven't. Let me know how it goes! Be ruthless! ;-)

Good Luck!

My MIL kept everything too. When they remodeled, they rented a big dumpster for all of the trash, well everytime my FIL threw something away, my MIL would send my husband or his brother to the dumpster to pull it back out! I hope you have better luck!

I hold onto silly things much longer than I ever should. Somewhere in the confines of our house there is a box with 20 year old happy meal toys. Believe it or not my Husband was the one for keeping them. The one thing I wish I had more of are momentos from my growing up years. I used to just sit and draw and I do not have even one of those drawings left. It would be interesting to look at them now and see if I was as good as I thought I was at, say, nine or ten. I do have a very large pen and ink assignment I did in my sophmore art class, and I'm still impressed with it. At least I think I still have it. . . . . Somewhere.

I have no problem getting rid of my old junk. I never keep anything.

By the way, I am originally from Kentucky. We just moved to NJ about 2 1/2 years ago.

Oh Dani I don't envy you! I'm supposed to be doing the same thing now that the kids are back at school, but for the life of me I don't know where to start... what do I keep, what do I get rid of... there are just too many memories! realistically I know a lot has to go, but it's hard throwing away life! good luck with it all.. I'll be thinking of you :)

I am doing the exact same thing this weekend. Ed and Mattie are leaving for 5 days, and I will be a mad woman throwing things away and going to goodwill. They won't miss half the stuff.

Way to go Dani. I will be right there with you. I with be listening to my new Coldplay CD..

Hi Dani, sorry about the Title and no post:) I wrote the title and then without meaning to hit publish (or whatever it is you push to show your newest efforts.) The benadryl is meant for the kids. But now I think it might be better if instead of going to the movies the whole family (shall we call them the Irresponsibles) took it and hit the hay instead of the cinema. Although you were right ON with going for the parents as the problem.

Hmmm, it is always so hard to take things of sentiment, even the tiniest, and finally say it's time to throw them out. I remember reading a book about decluttering and it said that anything you don't display should be thrown away - quite shocking really! I am not at that stage yet, but I have given lots away, thrown away, scanned art into a blog for my girls, and decoupaged old trip brochures on frames in hopes of keeping them. I have to say that the things I have decided to get rid of, I haven't thought of since. Good Luck Friend!

it's really funny, linda... john is always the one complaining about all the stuff we've accumulated. so, the last time i attempted to do this he only took off about half of what i wanted him to take. he was sure i'd be sorry later. lol, go figure???
i'll see how tomorrow goes:b

It's good to clear out and it feels good to do so, but don't be too harsh with the sentimental stuff! I'm not much help to you, as i tend to 'hoard' . I' ve got some of my stuff stored at my Mums house.
Good Luck Dani!

Good luck with this one Dani! I'm terrible at throwing things away. I always think they might come in handy one day.

That is awesome John is taking time off to help! I can't drag my husband into such tasks. I struggle with the to keep or not to keep battle. My husband calls it nesting. I sit among every thing with every intent to get rid of most of it and instead I sit and nest and go down memory lane. I envy people that keep nothing and the simplicity this must bring but I just can't do it!

thanks, amanda... mom sent all my stuff to me a long time ago (the turkey, my nursery school things, etc...).
my house is a disaster right now but i hope it will soon be better than ever!!!
