the domestication of said daughter...

(my not-so-domesticated daughter, YET;)

every morning i awake and drink two glasses of iced coffee. a month ago i actually had EIGHT iced tea glasses from which to choose...

this morning i opened the kitchen cabinet and found one juice glass, two coffee cups, a set of margarita glasses, and my wine glass collection.
where the heck have all my ice tea glasses gone???
i thought to myself.
then i thought for a moment...

oh, yes, several have been broken over the past few weeks and the others are in the dishwasher...
DIRTY...
awaiting a full dishwasher so that they may be washed:S

back story:

several weeks ago, katherine's ipod met its untimely demise...

"mom... dad... what could i do around the house to earn money to buy me a new ipod???" katherine asked.
"oh, and can i go ahead and get it now???"

john and i thought... i told katherine that she would have to load, wash, and unload the dishes from the dishwasher; john told her he was going to show her how to vacuum the swimming pool (he has yet to do so); we told her she was going to have to keep her room (the kat cave) a little neater than she had been keeping it...

longer story... SHORTER...

katherine got her new ipod.

(katherine's new ipod NANO;)

katherine also learned how to and started managing the dishwasher...
however, along the way
several tea glasses got broken.

and... katherine learned that much less work is involved in washing the dishes if she waits until the dishwasher is full-to-overflowing before starting a load.
hence, i only had THIS to drink my iced coffee from this morning:S

(a wine glass for my iced coffee)

ALL my iced tea glasses have either been broken,
or they (the 4 that are left)
were residing in the dishwasher awaiting the company
of more dirty dishes
so that they could be washed!!!

all this to say
that i am off to purchase some new glasses tonight...
i'm thinking something inexpensive
until the domestication of said daughter
is complete:b

love and blessings,
dani xx

Oh Dani ~ buy the cheapest ones that you can find!! I am forever breaking things and I have given up on expensive stuff!! I have never had iced tea or iced coffee ~ I am not even sure how you would make it ~ but it sounds yummy!!
I have given up the chocolate and have an addiction to coffee instead ha ha.
Hope you have a great weekend.

hey, tabitha:)
they are going to be the cheapest ones i can find!!! (at least until "said daughter" learns to pay closer attention;) tee-hee...
btw, to make iced coffee or iced tea, all you do is add ice (and cream/sugar if you like):b it is very refreshing... as i'm not much of a hot beverage drinker. flavored coffees are the best, but i usually just drink the other half of the pot john doesn't drink before leaving for work.

jan, it felt pretty classy:) but, it almost felt sinful drinking out of a wine glass before noon, HA!!!

amanda, my little katherine is just going through the motions (me thinks, tee-hee)... whatever i buy is NOT going to be expensive; that's for sure:D

Gee Dani maybe you should find some large plastic sippy cups. Those are supposed to be pretty indestructable, although I presume that polite society would only accept proper iced tea glasses. So I will also vote for going extra cheap. Also maybe tell Miss K that for every broken glass she will have to clean your bathroom for you.

suz, lol, i'm about to settle for solo cups!!! she likes to throw those away so that the dishwasher doesn't fill up too quickly:b
i really cannot place the blame completely on her. i think john has broken a couple himself. i just don't understand the concept of breaking glass(es)... i mean one here or there, but several over a couple of weeks??? go figure!!!

dani

Maybe plastic is the way to go? We've still got "sippie" cups in our cupboard, maybe I'll ship them to her!

No fair. I had to wash dishes by hand when I was a kid. Actually, I still have to wash dishes by hand.

jenn, i still haven't gotten out to go get anything (still cleaning hardwood floors:S) but, i am really thinking about the hard plastic (glass look). they are NOT cheap; but they are dishwasher safe and don't break!!! or, there are always sippie cups, HA!!!

christy, i washed by hand, too... but, thank goodness katherine isn't or we'd probably have already had to have stitches:o

Hmmm, what if you would say: every glass you break means a day without your Ipod? That just might do the trick!

Love,
Tania
PS: I've put someone else in the spotlight today on my blog!

i don't know, tania... i've sat right her and watched her. it is totally by accident:? she assures me she is getting better at it:b
i guess we will see, tee-hee!!!

dani
ps i'm heading your way (i cannot sleep tonight for some reason???)

Dani, absolutely but the cheaper ones!!! I looooove iced tea & coffee, but at the moment it is freezing here so i has to be hot coffee through the day & hot tea at night! I'm sure Kat will get the hang of it sooner or later, my two older boys have dishwasher duty... must say they are pretty good at it, well they do it everyday so I guess they should be good at it LOL!

have a great day,

tanya xxxx

I want a pic of Kat cleaning that pool...video even better...: l,d

tanya, i certainly hope she gets the hang of it BEFORE she ends up cutting herself. it really is a sight to behold (i think part of her problem is that she is left-handed, and the other part of her problem is that she listens to her ipod while putting the dishes away: therefore she doesn't hear the clang of the glass as she's breaking them... i mean putting them in the cabinet;)
the cheaper ones it will be!!!

dani

d,
i will believe that john is going to "teach" her if and when i see it!!! i will, however, video it for you if and when he ever decides to do so:D

Too cute..Hunter and Pip have broken so much glass around here, it's a wonder I even have a glass left at all! I'll have to remember my wine glasses as a backup!

dani said...

ha, robin!!! i saw your poor glass cross... it's pretty bad when one cannot find a glass from which to drink, though:/
