"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!"

(my SWEET dryer;)

this morning while katherine was getting ready for school, i put a load of clothes i washed last night in the dryer. i then made my way to the bathroom, brushed my
teeth and hair, and washed my face. katherine let me know she was leaving. i went about doing a few more things around the house.

as i walked past the laundry room, i thought to myself, "didn't  i start that load of clothes?" well, i had. our dryer is just so quiet, it is difficult to hear when it is running...

we have this dryer because our last one fell completely apart!
have you ever seen a dryer fall apart (i mean literally "fall apart")?
no? when it happened,
it was a new one for me, too.

you see...

a while back, i put a load of clothes in my old dryer (which, by the way, wasn't really old). after some time passed, i went back to unload and fold the clothes inside only to find the clothes were still wet. what? i shut the door and pressed the start button, but it didn't start.

dead silence.

when john returned from work that afternoon, i told him about the dryer. the next thing i knew, he was pulling it away from the wall. nervously, i asked him if i should call wally, our handy man. he said, no, that he was sure he could fix it.
(ohmyword, my john is NO fixer!)

the next thing i knew he had the top opened. he turned around and looked at me. with sweat dripping from his nose, he asked me to come hold the tumbler so he could work on it.

oh, no. i obliged.

he started unscrewing the bolts holding it in place. the first couple came out fine; then, it seemed every other one fell to the bottom of the dryer:0
other things sounded like they were falling, too.

after an eternity about 45 minutes of me holding the tumbler while john attempted to identify the problem, i looked at him and asked,
"what are we going to do now?"

looking up at me, he furrowed his brow, wiped the sweat from his nose and chin and gave me a nervous chuckle. he proceeded to tell me he didn't know...
it wasn't what he thought it was...
(whatever "it" was?)

mind you i was still holding the now boltless, much heavier tumbler.
"what about this tumbler?" i asked.

"i don't know," he said as he nervously chuckled again.

"i cannot hold this thing much longer!?"
i told him (not chuckling at all).

he said he didn't think he could get it lined back up to replace the bolts.
(not mentioning the obvious - 1/2 of the screws were "gone" to the bottom of the appliance never to be seen again!)

then he said, "i'm getting hungry; let's go get some supper."

he didn't have to tell me twice!
"ok," i said as i let go of the tumbler.

"BANG!"
was basically the sound the tumbler made as it hit the bottom of the dryer.

later at rookies over zin and maker's-and-coke,
john told me not to worry...
he would fix the dryer.
(honestly, after my second glass of wine,
i was really not worried at all;)
i nodded and smiled.

the next morning
(it was a saturday), i awoke and made my way to the den where john sat reading the paper. i thought i heard a noise coming from the laundry room. i asked john what it was. he grinned and said, "it's the dryer."

"no, it's not," i said to him.

"yes, it is," he continued.

"you did not fix that dryer," i stated as i opened the door to the laundry room.
there sat a brand new dryer (the "sweet" one in the photo above)

"could they tell what was wrong with the other one?" i asked him.

ohmyword...
you should have seen his face!

"WHAT?" i asked.

"well..." he began. when the guy brought this one in this morning and hooked it up, it wouldn't run, either."
he continued. "we had a blown fuse."

BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

poor john has yet to live that one down...
he gives gave a whole new meaning to the old adage...

"IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!!"
love and blessings,
danixx

That is a fantstic story Dani!!
I had that problem with my iron not so long ago, it wouldn't work ~ so I threw it away and bought a new one ~ when the new one didn't work either ~ I realised that the wall socket wasn't working properly and there had been nothing wrong with the other iron (which had by this time gone to iron heaven!!).
love and big hugs to you XXXX

How funny is that? Love that he did solve the problem though. The man of the house and over the appliances. He found a way.

Thanks for the wonderful tale of the dryer. I think he is an awful sweet guy to go out and get you one pronto. Love it.

That story is hilarious! SERIOUSLY - too funny. I have a similar story involving my husband (also a John).

One night I went to flip on the kitchen light, but it wouldn't come on. I called for John, and he came to take a look. After inspecting everything, he declared that the light fixture went bad. So, the next morning I had to lug both kids to Lowes to pick out another light fixture. When he got home that evening, he installed the new light fixture, but it still wouldn't work. Turns out we simply had two bad light bulbs!

ha, tabitha!!! you know, if i didn't have john i would have paid the repair guy to come tell me that the fuse was blown because i wouldn't have known the difference.
i did go buy a new heat gun (for stripping paint) last summer because i thoght mine didn't work anymore only to find out that it was the socket... but, i hadn't gotten rid of the first one:b

Dani that is so funny! I am not telling my Rohan that story just yet-our microwave is tripping the safety switch atm and today he said ok microwaves dead time for a new one! On later inspection I found it to be the double adapter plugged into the switch but I have been nagging for a new microwave for ages now so.......hmmm i shall not lie just omit to tell!

Take care

Dr. Wahle is who did Garrett's surgery. He is a great ENT. I don't really like the Logan's personally. Never been, just haven't heard good things about them. Anyway, hope you are having a fabulous week. :)

That is really funny, even funnier because it was you and not me. I think we have replaced at least three small and large appliances for reasons just that silly. I'm so happy to see that it happens to other people and not just us. The last one we almost replaced was the shredder. Turns out that the outlet it was plugged into just needed to be reset. Now that one I was kind of bummed about. I really wanted to get a new shredder, a bigger, tougher one. Oh well, I'll just need to find a way to really mess that wimpy shredder up.
