i had to laugh this morning as i stood in the middle of my den contemplating freshening up the white paint on the wood-work... as i looked around the room in an attempt to figure the amount of paint i would need, my eyes stopped at the top corner of door that leads to the deck. there it was... the security system i "installed" two years ago!!!
long story short...
katherine invited 23 girls to a sleep-over to kick off spring break when she was in the 7th grade. not knowing how i was going to keep them all safely in the house (it was a big thing to "sneak out" at that age; which terrified me), i went to our local hardware store and bought a stick-up door alarm... ONE!!!
so, i stuck it up really high on the facing of the door. i told all the girls once they arrived that i had set the "security system"; which was a laser beam that went in both directions around all the walls, windows, and doors in the house. further, i told them that if the laser beam were to be broken by opening a door that the police would be here immediately.
lol, i told them all that so that they would know that they were safe (reverse psychology!!!). it worked:D that $10 security system was worth its weight in gold in a pinch!!!
after realizing the real need, we have, since then, installed a security system... but, i hadn't taken down the little stick-up one because i figured the adhesive would mess up the paint underneath it.
well, it's coming down this week, as it is time to paint:b
love and blessings,
dani xx

Have a good day - Kellan
hey, anonymous...
i'm probably not going to get my paint until wednesday. it's supposed to rain the next couple of days, and i don't like to paint when it's humid...
but, if you are in on wednesday, i will run over... well, walk:D
love you,
d
it worked, kellan:D they fell for it hook, line, and sinker... thank goodness!!!
you have a good day, too;)
love and hugs,

Ha Ha, that is fantastic, I love that idea. It is amazing how you can convince children something is real!!
The security system on my old house used to go off in the middle of the night ~ for no reason ~ used to scare me to death lol!!
Have a good day,
Hugs, Tabitha XX
PS ~ I cannot wait for the next episode of Desperate Housewives....sunday can't come fast enough!! XX
tabitha,
you noticed i said i placed it very high on the door. i was very lucky (as precocious as girls at that age are these days) that they bought it:]

Now that window alarm could come in handy to keep the boyfriends out!!!! (joke, he-he)
Well seen i don't have any girls, cause that is somthing hubby would do if we did:-)
I've been known to tell a few tall tales to my kids to make them stop misbehaving. We have alarm sensors around the house and a red light on the sensor flashes sometimes. I told the kids that they are cameras and the police were watching them! It worked a treat!!
Love Amanda x
I am totally going to have to remember that one. That is GREAT!!!! Love it!
Isn't it great that reverse psychology can actually work!?!
Have fun painting! Glad you shared this memory before covering it with paint.
Hugs,
Tania
amanda,
you crack me up with the cameras...
BIG BROTHER'S WATCHING YOU!!! HA!!
i don't have to worry about the windows in any of the rooms but ours (we added a master suite in 2000)... they have all long since been painted shut:D

tania,
i took part of it off and was right it wasn't good for the paint job beneath... only to say that not removing it at the time gave me a couple of years before having to paint:D
i totally dig when reverse psych works!!!

This is so true...I remember sneaking out one night with no where to go. It was short lived....we got scared. When you live out in the country and 13 miles from the nearest town it can get pretty boring. This has brought up a memory....my father hid behind a tree one day and made the sound of what my sister thought was a bear. She never got over it! Who needs a security system when you got no place to go!
HA!!! shannon, "when you've got no place to go" and a daddy bear... right??? i am just really glad we don't live in a sub-division, as there is really nowhere to go here either;) but, i still want everyone "in" and safe!!!

What a fantastic idea!!! Might have to look into doing the same thing... only to keep the girls out!!!! LOL. I've just been informed that my little man, Samuel has been crowned "The Boy" in year three!! will explain more on my blog later!!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful stories!!
Have a great day...

tanya...
it's only a bluff. but, sometimes it's "whatever works"; right!?!?!!!
can't wait to read about your little man, sam:D

Hi Dani
What an ingenious mum you are. How funny that the girls believed your story. The main thing is that it worked and they all were safe.
Love
Elise
elise,
i'm not sure how ingenious... but, IT WORKED!!!

HILARIOUS! That would've come in handy at my parents' house when one of my friends used to sneak out of it to visit her boyfriend--whose dad was my neighbor. I was too afraid to sneak out (and that much of a dork) that I would just lay there in my room with knots in my stomach waiting for her to return!
i was too afraid, too, christina. and, katherine would be also. but, some (as you know) have NO FEAR!!! that's for whom the "security system" was installed, LOL!!!

LOL Does that trick work on boys?
pt... the product is only as good as your bluff, LOL!!!

All my love,
Amanda
